MODULE 1 The Acting Process - 
The Key, Essential Elements (20wks)
This foundation module is designed to offer the optimum acting experience by exploring:
- the fundamentals of acting
- the dynamics of connecting to your fellow actors
- the art of storytelling for an audience.
This module will challenge your imagination, instinct and purpose onstage through improvisation and detailed scene work. ACA’s expert teachers and tutors will guide you towards a personal understanding of acting with a sense of authenticity as you recognise and release your creative potential. This module culminates in an exciting in-house scene work studio presentation. The ACA environment encourages a positive approach to the learning process, as well as challenges students to commit to the adventure
that is acting.

POWER FOCUS
Specific modules begin with a 40-minute PowerFocus session. This vibrant warm-up introduces a range of skills that powerfully channels each group’s energy and focus in order to dynamically enhance the acting session ahead.
MODULE 2 Performing the Play - 
Becoming an Ensemble (15wks)
Build upon the fundamentals developed in Module 1 by:
- elevating your acting skills
- focussing on the central themes and narrative action
- exploring the play's dramatic arc and journey
Become a part of an exciting company of actors in this unique opportunity to work with a dynamic director to rehearse an ensemble performance. Creating characters, examining the story arc and unique performance dynamics are among the preparation requirements explored as the participant discovers the drive and spirit of the play. This module culminates in a live performance of an abridged play for invited guests in the ACA Theatre.

MODULE 3 Performing in Shakespeare - 
The Spirit & Skills driving Classic Text (12wks)
Rise to the thrill and challenge offered by one of the greatest writers of all time – William Shakespeare. In this module, discover why Shakespeare’s work continues to inspire actors as well as audiences, by working through a series of monologues, sonnets and scenes. Learn to unlock their true meaning and the emotions driving them, and be inspired by the detail of the material and build vital skills through this dynamic process. An exploration of script, sense, imagery and action are combined to add to the acting skills of each individual’s performance abilities.

MODULE 4 Performing American Theatre -
Powerful Contemporary Works (12wks)
Rehearse and perform powerful monologues and scenes from the dynamic contemporary American repertoire. With the increasing number of US plays on our stages and movies in production in Australia, this module presents an essential opportunity to explore the demands of American character and their physicality and accent. This is all done by understanding the context of the American regional cultures and their idioms and their affect on the writing. This physically and psychologically exciting module concludes with a powerful stage performance.

MODULE 5 Performing On Screen -
Your on-set Experience (12 weeks)
Break through to greater levels of creative freedom and confidence in screen work by embracing the crucial detail and layers for powerful screen acting. Explore contemporary film and television scripts that will enhance an understanding of current industry practices and on-set expectations in the mediums of film and television. Gain an insight into the process of working with an industry director and the ‘on–set’ shooting experience, with emphasis on essential camera techniques and how best to use them. Students will also receive an edited DVD of their presented scene.

MODULE 6 Performing in Auditions - 
Stage and Screen (12 weeks)
What catches the attention of industry casting directors? In this highly-practical, behind-the-scenes module, students work on contemporary and classic monologues to learn techniques to enhance the audition performance. Embrace the essential triggers of approach, attitude, preparation, process and performance in order to make more effective choices. This module concludes with an in-house studio showing of monologues and then a formalised simulated audition casting-call experience. Working in front of a panel of industry professionals, students will receive personal feedback to assist in developing an advanced level of audition effectiveness.

PERFORMANCES Module 1 present their scenes an in -house studio showing to other groups. Modules 2, 3& 4– Students do two performances: the first is an in-house preview performance for other students, the second in front of an invited audience in the ACA Theatre. Module 5- Provides and onset experience Module 6- present a classic and contemporary monologue in-house showing and then before an industry panel. |
PLEASE NOTE:No Audition is necessary for entry into any of the modules (unless you apply for RPL - see below). Students must be at least 18yrs or over. |
RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL)
Recognition of Prior Learning may be granted for applicants with previous and appropriate acting training who wish to directly join MODULES 2-6. Applicants will need to contact the Course Director for an interview and may be asked to audition. |
